About Me
I was born in the U.K. but spent my formative years in India after moving there as a child. Living in that beautiful country profoundly shaped both my personal worldview and my professional approach to therapy. Today, I’m a proud parent to three wonderful children who continue to teach and inspire me every day.
My Qualifications
Having never been quite sure what career path to follow and dabbling in some writing and other things, I discovered counselling while pregnant with my second child in 2005, and knew immediately that I had discovered my purpose. I qualified as a counsellor from the University of Ulster in 2009 and also went on to complete a BSc (Hons) in Psychology.
Since then, I’ve dedicated myself to continuous learning and professional development, building a unique Integrative approach to therapy, and more recently specialising in trauma-focused therapies. My training includes a Level 5 Diploma in CBT, Master Practitioner certification in EFT/Tapping, a Level 6 Diploma in Counselling Supervision and EMDR Levels 1-3, having achieved Practitioner and Consultant accreditations.
Like many counselling colleagues I am committed to ongoing CPD (Continued Professional Development) and have completed numerous specialised courses in trauma, suicide intervention, anxiety, domestic violence and neurodivergence amongst other things.
My Experience
My career has included diverse and meaningful roles: working as a Practice Counsellor for an established GP surgery in Ballymena, providing crisis support in suicide prevention both by telephone and face-to-face in the community, teaching counselling in the adult education sector, and telephone counselling for the RCN. Since 2013 however, I have mainly focussed on the development of my private practise, online and in Antrim Town. I am also currently providing EMDR therapy online to NHS trust patients in England through Xyla Digital Therapies as well.
This breadth of experience across different settings and populations has given me a deep understanding of the varied challenges people face and the resilience they possess.
My Approach
I’m committed to providing safe, effective, and compassionate care. I attend monthly clinical supervision and engage regularly in professional development to ensure my practice reflects the latest evidence-based approaches. As an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2014, and an Accredited Practitioner & Consultant with EMDR All-Ireland, I maintain the highest standards of professional practice.
I am passionate about offering a service that is evidence based. I stay up to date with the latest research around counselling and what is most useful in recovery. I do not believe in only relying on older theoretical models of counselling, and through my study of psychology, try to stay abreast of neuropsychology research.
I now mainly practice from a longer term EMDR Psychotherapy perspective. This tends to inform the work I do with most clients. I do however always take the client’s needs and preferences into account, to offer what would seem to work best for the individual.
